Gus Hansen gives a few simple tips for beginners to online poker.  He specifically mentions Full Tilt poker but the tips apply just as well to any of the other poker sites.

1. Know the rules.  Start in a game you understand, such as limit holdem.  You can learn other games like 7 Card Stud or Omaha

2. Play within your bankroll limit.  Don’t play ring games with more than 10% of your bankroll, no more than 5% for tournaments.

3. Play only a single table. While you can multi-table 2, 4 or even more tables when you have the experience, start with just one table to begin with.

4. Play solid poker.  ”Tight is right” so don’t try playing crazy moves, stick to solid starting hands and strategy until you’re very experienced.

5. Don’t bluff too much.  Bluffs are often used too much be amateurs – use them sparingly!

6. Play full tables.  Heads up poker can be fun, but you’ll have to make lots of tough decisions, so stick to 9 or 6 player tables to begin with!
